Coastguard

Lives can be lost at sea very quickly. The sooner the Coastguard or RNLI can get to the location, the better. A person washed overboard, swept out to sea when swimming or drowning can be alarming and many people tend to panic or put their own lives in danger trying to help.

Smaller boats may not have VHF radio and rely on mobile telephones with GPS locations. It is extremely difficult to help without putting your own life in danger.

When you are speaking to the Coastguard they may ask you record the incident using the Your999 App.

You may also witness an act of smuggling or boat theft.

Simply press the Your999 App, record the incident and upload it to the Your999 site immediately.

Uploading the video or the picture will give the Coastguard an instant assessment of the situation, the location, descriptions, environment, individuals involved, hazards and so on, which will provide them with a suitable priority response. They will be able to instruct you until they arrive.

Remember, you are anonymous so please be assured no-one will know who has uploaded the video or the picture.

Never put yourself in danger.
